MM Rahmatullah: Foreign Minister Dr Ak Abdul Momen said that there is no reason to worry about the statements of the United States and the United Kingdom regarding the elections in Bangladesh.
When attention was drawn to the statement of two important partners of Bangladesh, the foreign minister told journalists, ‘The election was held in a free, fair, credible and non-violent manner. That is enough, we are very happy with it.’
After participating in the “meet and greet” event organized by the foreign ministry at the premises of the Foreign Service Academy at state guesthouse Sugandha with diplomats on Tuesday afternoon.
The foreign minister said that the people of the country have once again exercised their right to vote.
Momen said the people of the country have given their verdict and they don’t need anything else.
The foreign observers also praised the Election Commission for conducting the elections in a fair and peaceful manner, he added.
US Ambassador Peter Haas, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Mantytsky, EU Ambassador Charles WHITELEY, UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam Haji Haris bin Othman, Danish Ambassador Christian BRIX MOLLER (CHRIS), Thailand Ambassador Makawadee Sumitmor, Charge d’ Affaires of Singapore High Commission Sheela Pillai, High Commissioners and Ambassadors from various other countries along with representatives of Pakistan and Indian High Commission were present at the event. Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, senior officials of MoFA and dignitaries were also present in the moment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, the 12th National Parliament election is a symbol of the continuity of a democratic Bangladesh state, which can contribute to ensure regional and global peace and security. In addition to achieving international development goals, we are determined to eliminate terrorism, radicalization and extremism.
A briefing note among diplomats said, ‘Through the initiative of the new government, Bangladesh will be ready to strengthen cooperation with its neighbors to ensure shared economic prosperity in South Asia through greater regional security, integration and connectivity.’
It added that the results of the 12th National Assembly elections at the national level will initiate a new opportunity to bring more dynamism to the socio-economic activities as it has been achieved in the past three terms of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. Political stability under democratic rule has contributed a lot to these achievements, it added.
