Diplomatic Correspondent: High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, accompanied by his wife, has paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Begum Khaleda Zia.
The High Commissioner arrived at Khaleda Zia’s residence in Gulshan at 8:30pm on Tuesday and stayed for approximately one and a half hours. During the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and Organizational Secretary Shama Obaid were also present.
BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan informed Dhaka Tribune that the High Commissioner arrived at the BNP Chairperson’s residence at 8:30pm and left around 10pm.
Following the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain told reporters: “During the visit, the High Commissioner discussed various issues with the BNP Chairperson. He highlighted the contributions of Ziaur Rahman in the formation of Bangladesh and expressed Pakistan’s desire to elevate its relationship with Bangladesh to new heights.”
He added: “The High Commissioner inquired about Madam’s health, wished her a speedy recovery, and conveyed greetings from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan. Madam also sent her regards in return.”
It is worth mentioning that in November, the Pakistani High Commissioner had a meeting with Mirza Fakhrul at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, following student-led protests, Khaleda Zia was released the next day as her sentence was commuted.
