Nur Uddin Jabed, Lakshmipur: Jamaat-e-Islami and Charmohanai—two distinct Islamist political groups—are now serving as allies of Sheikh Hasina’s regime, alleged Aminul Islam Talukder, Joint Secretary General of the central committee of Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal.
The remarks came during a protest rally organized by the Lakshmipur district unit of Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal on Tuesday afternoon. The rally began at Shaheed Afnan Chattar and ended at Shaheed Masrur Chattar, where a brief gathering was held.
In his speech, Talukder said: “These so-called Islamic parties—who were once sympathizers of war collaborators—now have no real public base. They don’t even have 2 to 5 percent of the vote. Yet they are targeting BNP and its associate bodies as tools of Hasina’s government.”
“BNP has always led the fight for the country’s independence, democracy, and the people’s right to vote. We ousted the autocratic Hasina through mass movements. We were on the streets then, and we still are and will remain so.”
The protest was presided over by Advocate Mohsin Kabir Swapon, President of Lakshmipur district Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal, with Harunur Rashid Harun, the General Secretary, conducting the event. Activists and leaders from both district and upazila levels actively took part in the protest rally.
