Prof Dr Sk Akram Ali: Success in individual and national life depends on certain factors. Some are common in both the cases while there are differences also. Hard work is the key to success in individual life. But the success of a nation depends on certain other factors which are quite different from that of individual life. A farsighted and wise leader is a must for the success of a nation besides many other factors which play an important role in the success.
We are yet to be on the road to success except the period of Ziaur Rahman who had been a blessing for the nation.For the first the country was on the road to success due to his dynamic leadership and he laid the foundation of a modern Bangladesh free from the hands of foreign masters. Bangladesh had a good number of friends but not masters. His success was primarily due to the sincere services of a good number of military and civil officers who were highly professional and committed towards the betterment of the people and the country.
Ershad followed the footsteps of Ziaur Rahman and could keep the country on the road to success although he destroyed the backbone of the society through rampant corruption in the country .Khaleda Zia followed the policies of Ziaur Rahman and successfully ran the government in a fair way.But her government faced a huge political crisis created by the Awami League and ultimately he had lost the elections held in 1996.
After a gap of twenty one years Awami League under Sk Hasina came to power and she for the first time tried her best to politicize both civil and military administration . Even after all these she failed to come back in the government.Although Khaleda Zia through her able leadership again came to power in 2001 but couldn’t manage the government as efficiently as she did during the first tenure.Some mistakes of her government ultimately opened the door for India to interfere in the politics of Bangladesh.It is Moinuddin Ahmed who has been considered as the root of all crisis that the country witnessed till the fall of fascist Sk Hasina in August last year.
The Awami League government under the leadership of Sk Hasina was found to be very confident from the beginning with the direct support of her master India .The BDR Carnage of February 2009 has been considered as a direct action by India to destroy the backbone of the military once for all. The Bangladesh Army was brought under the direct control of India and as a result the Army lost its professional character and thus became the victims of Indian hegemonic politics all through the last regime of fifteen years .
Each and every sector which matters for an effective administration including civil,police and judiciary were highly politicized by the fascist regime to control the people with the blessings of India alone.The people of the country had to experience a wholly politicized Awami League administration. How can we avoid and change this curse overnight? has been a genuine question to all concerned.So far no visible progress and initiatives have been noticed to make over and replace the Awami Administration.
We have enough confidence in the government of Dr Yunus but it has been considered by many as a slow and inactive government. They are otherwise found busy in encouraging a newly born political party to grow and at the same time working for the interests of a particular country. A few advisors including health and education advisors are considered dead and found to be good for nothing.On the other hand, the stakeholders of the July Revolution 2024 are found to be splitting on certain basic national issues like the character of future government and the time schedule for next elections.
All these give a clear signal that the present government proved to be a weak one. Taking advantage of this weak government, the enemies are encouraged to march according to their blueprint to launch attacks from all dimensions which they consider favorable for them.
The recent law and order situations that have occurred out of the crash of a fighter plane on the Milestone college building on last Sunday 21 st July 2025 has become a great concern for the nation. It has been no doubt an accident but the poor response on the part of the government has attracted the attention of the people with deep concern.It is not at all a healthy sign rather gives a message of greater scale of deterioration of law and order situations any time .It also speaks about the failure of advisors of home, education and health.None could perform their respective responsibilities in time and rather create hu and cry in the society. Secondly the civil and military administration has put on a poor show and they have proved to be absolutely inefficient and ineffective in managing the situation. It further depicts that the administration of the country has become very inefficient and poor to serve the nation in times of national crisis. They are out on the roads to lead us to reach the objectives of the nation through their professional services. Everybody in the society is fond of making a short -cut way of success in life instead of gaining professional competence through hard work.
We have also proved to be creators of rumours when we are supposed to talk with sense and responsibilities as good citizens of the country. The social media have appeared to be first line rumors makers and have been working against the government initiatives by spreading rumors. We are found to be guided by chief popularity and personal gains.This also proves our poor ethical standards and dishonesty of purpose . It is very unfortunate that some vested interested quarters have been trying to malign the founder of Milestone School and College forgetting his huge contributions in the fields of academic advancement in the country. Col Mohammad Nurun Nabi has proved his worth through his hard work and wisdom by establishing such a beautiful educational institution for the nation. Instead of praising for his dedicated efforts we are trying to condemn him.It speaks about our poor mentality and dishonesty .The nation is yet to be on the right track.
Now let me tell you about four stars of our society who have contributed greatly for the advancement of the country. They are Maj Gen Amjad Ahmed Khan Chowdhury,Lt Col Kazi Shahed Ahmed, Brig Gen Mohammad Sharif Aziz and Col Mohammad Nurun Nabi and all of them happened to be Pakistan Military Academy trained officers. I personally know them and had the rare opportunity to work with them except Lt Col Kazi Shahed . Every one of them is simply a genius and they have proved themselves as empire builders in their respective field of initiatives after retirement. Gen Amjad for business (Pran- RFL gp),Lt Col Kazi Shahed for business and education( Mina House and ULAB),Brig Gen Sharif Aziz for civil security service ( Elite Force) and Col Mohammad Nurun Nabi for education (Milestone School and College). They are the sons of the soil and our pride. Undoubtedly they are superstars of the society and great men of Bangladesh.
How to come back to the roads of success? appears as genuine concern for the nation. We have to first be honest and sincere if we really want to see a better road to success . A national government headed by Dr Yunus with Tarek Rahman and Dr Shafiqur Rahman as his two deputies for a period of two years only. Dr Col Oli Ahmad,BB,a gentleman with huge experience and clean image could be a better choice for the head of the country. Fifty percent advisors are to be from the largest political party of the country and rest from other political parties including new and old who had visible contributions for the change of fascist regime of Sk Hasina.
The national government of Dr Yunus will make all out efforts to bring back the country on the road to future success by implementing basic changes which are necessary to put the country on the right tracks.The educational reforms should get the highest priority in order to make a good generation in future. They will be the future of Bangladesh and the old and present generations have to work in that direction. The next is constitutional reframing or making a new one. All others will take their own course of actions as per the constitution.
The nation has been passing through a transitional period of history and the people of the country must feel the importance of it and work from his or her respective positions in order to bring the nation on the road to future success . The BNP,Jamat and NCP have a greater role to play, forgetting the difference and immediate gains for the party keeping the national interest above everything.
