Rejaul Islam Babu, Rangpur: In keeping with the modern world, complex surgery through robotic surgery is going to start in Rangpur soon to improve the quality of healthcare in the country. Through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), it will be possible to operate in remote and complex areas of the body in robotic surgery.

This will make urology, gynecology, chlororectal surgery, hepatobiliary and abdominal wall reconstruction surgery easier and reduce the workload of surgeons by 70 percent. Although robotic surgery costs more, surgical complications, bleeding and infection rates will be greatly reduced. An international seminar will be held in Rangpur on July 5 to encourage the young surgeons of the country in robotic surgery with fellowship. It is known that famous surgeons of the country and abroad will participate.

The country’s first robotic surgeon and the head of the hospital’s surgery department, Professor Dr Md Jabed Akhter, presented this information at a press conference organized by the private Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon. But laparoscopy surgery also has some limitations. In robotic surgery, high-powered 3D cameras are used to get a good and clear view of the operation site. He also said that 93 percent of the world’s robots are used in surgery in America, Europe and Japan.

He said that only 7 percent of robots are used in the rest of the world. Of these, there are about 150 robots in India. Even Nepal, a SAARC country, is using robotic surgery. The use of robotic surgery has not yet started in Bangladesh.

In the press conference, Dr. Jabed said, I have done the first fellowship in robotic surgery for Bangladesh. Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital will soon bring modern robots and start robotic surgery. If this is the case, the dependence of patients on treatment abroad will be greatly reduced. As a result, patients do not have to be treated outside the country. It will save foreign exchange.

The press conference was attended by Professor Dr Hridoy Ranjon Roy, Head of Surgery Department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, Professor Dr Ayeasha Nasrin Suravee of Rangpur Community Medical College and other doctors of Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital.
