City Desk: Hepatitis B and C are serious diseases. But it is preventable. Various initiatives are being taken in this regard. Safe blood circulation is important in eradicating hepatitis B and C. And in this case, the selfless voluntary blood donors of the country are playing a great role in the health system through blood donation. Therefore, voluntary blood donation activities need to be more dynamic and strengthened for safe blood transfusion.
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, as part of the 3-day program organized by Quantum Foundation, the speakers said these things at the blood donor-recipient meeting and special seminar on Wednesday evening, June 12, at the IDEB Bhavan in Kakrail of the capital.
Prominent psychiatrist and fiction writer Dr. was present as the chief guest in the event. Anwara Syed Haque. General Secretary of Bangladesh Hepatology Society and Professor of Hepatology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University presented the main article on ‘Importance of safe blood transfusion and what we can do to prevent Hepatitis B and C’. Speakers in the event said that about 5.1 percent of the country’s population is infected with hepatitis B. That is, about 85 lakh people are affected by this disease. About 0.5 percent of the population is affected by RC. Hepatitis B and C viruses are usually spread through blood. These include unsafe blood transfusions, use of unsafe needles or syringes, etc. It can also be spread by injecting drugs through the same needle. Blood from unsafe and professional blood donors is therefore risky. That is why safe blood circulation should be given importance. Voluntary blood donation plays an important role in preventing hepatitis. Voluntary blood donors will make it easier to meet the 2030 goal of eliminating hepatitis.
Earlier in the afternoon, blood donors and recipients participated in the meeting in the first phase. A bond of harmony developed there through conversation and gratitude.
Quantum Voluntary Blood Donation Program Chief Coordinator Madam Nahar Al Bokhari presided over the evening seminar and honoring session by Motivation M Rezaul Hassan, Director of Voluntary Blood Donation Program. In the event, 50 times and 25 times voluntary blood donors were honored and thanked with crests.
Incidentally, Quantum has organized a three-day special event around World Blood Donor Day. On Wednesday there will be a meeting and special seminar for voluntary blood donors and blood recipients, on Thursday there will be motivation for blood donation volunteers and on June 14 Blood Donor Day, a special blood donor festival will be held at Quantum Lab from morning till night. By donating blood by going to the lab, one bag of blood can be divided into multiple components and served to multiple patients. Therefore, such arrangements are made to encourage blood donation by going to the lab.
