MM Rahmatullah: The country’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has seized the assets of former Bangladesh Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, who is in the UK. The estimated value of 343 flats/plots among the assets seized by the NCA is around 73.15 million pounds, which is Tk 10.25 billion in Bangladeshi currency. Moreover, the amount of bank deposits is 2.5 million pounds, which is approximately equivalent to Tk 350 million. Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen has given this information at a press conference on Monday.
Mohammad Abdul Momen said, there was a meeting with the NCA during his recent visit to London, the UK. We have shared a preliminary list of those who have laundered assets. As a result, we were able to seize a large amount of the former Land Minister’s assets.
ACC Chairman also said that 343 flats/plots and shares of 10 interest-related companies of former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed in the UK were attached by a court order on October 16 last year. In view of that attachment order, a Mutual Legal Assistant Request was sent to the Central Authority of the UK. The estimated value of ZS Properties is 73.15 million pounds, which is 10.25 billion taka in Bangladeshi currency.
Besides this, the amount of bank deposits is 2.5 million pounds, which is approximately more than 350 million taka.
