Bagerhat Correspondent: Members of the forest department have arrested 14 fishermen while trying to hunt fish with pesticides by violating the ban in the Sundarbans east of Bagerhat. On Monday (June 26) night, the forest guards arrested these fishermen from Killa Canal in the middle of Dublar Char of Sarankhola Range of East Sundarban Division. A fishing trawler, two bottles of pesticides, and nets were seized from the fishermen. After filing a case against the arrested fishermen under the Forest Act, the court sent them to jail on Tuesday afternoon.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Sarankhola Range of Eastern Sundarbans Division of Bagerhat. Mahabubur Rahman said, due to the breeding season of wild animals and fish, the foresters and tourists have been banned from entering the Sundarbans for 3 months. In defiance of this ban, illegal intruders are trying to catch fish with pesticides. Based on such information, 14 fishermen along with a fishing trawler were arrested in a joint operation of the smart pre-trolling team and Dubla patrol outpost forest guards on Monday night. Meanwhile, two bottles of pesticides and nets were seized. After filing a case under the Forest Act against the arrested fishermen on Tuesday afternoon, they were sent to jail by the court.
