Md Jubair: Chenab Railway Bridge has been illegally constructed by India on the Chenab River; it will connect the disputed region of Kashmir with India’s massive rail network.
The Indian illegal project has sparked fears and worry among the Kashmiri people who are already facing the wrath of blatant human rights abuses at the hands of Indian occupational forces.
Kashmiris are well aware of Indian nefarious and colonial designs, Kashmir has been systematically stripped off its autonomy in recent years, and the railway signals greater Indian control and unwanted transformation of the mountainous region with severe impacts on climate change as opined by environmentalists.
Kashmiri people and leadership have serious concerns regarding peace and stability of the region, they firmly believe that the railway will bring more instability than benefits to Kashmir, already facing illegal Indian occupation and struggling with demographic transformation and a heightened world’s largest military presence.
Kashmiris are certain that there will be a mass population shift in the UN-declared disputed region which will for sure destroy the identity and beauty of the region ultimately succumbing to Indian colonial designs.
Various Polls by different international agencies have shown that Kashmiris in the Indian occupied Kashmir want to be part of Pakistan.
India is hopeful that the train to Kashmir will give it a firmer grip on its illegal occupation of the disputed region. Contrary to this assumption India will for sure jeopardize the security of the region with global impacts.
Since 2019, when the Indian government unilaterally revoked Kashmir’s limited autonomy and imposed a region-wide communication blackout to quell dissent, it has persistently pushed policies that would give nonlocal the same rights that native residents enjoy which is against the UN resolution and severe violation of UN human rights charter.
The Election Commission of India recently announced plans to give voting rights to people who are temporarily living in the region, a move that has stirred outrage among native Kashmiris and local political leaders.
The move is expected to add about 2.5 million voters to the region, including Indian military personnel, marking a 30% increase in the electoral rolls.
India has perpetually disregarded the UN resolutions and rejected the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan to resolve the issue peacefully. The world must take immediate notice of Indian illegal, unilateral and provoking actions before it is too late.
