MOON Desk: Journalist Mosleh Uddin Bachchu, General Secretary of the Dhaka Press Club, was brutally attacked in a premeditated assault in the BK Bari area of Mirzapur Union under Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur Sadar Upazila.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 17 at approximately 8:30 a.m., when he protested against an extortion demand at a construction site next to his residence.

According to the injured journalist, a group of local individuals—including Gani Mia, Mofazzal Hossain, and Masud—had been demanding 500,000 taka from him for some time. When he refused to pay, they became hostile.

On the morning of the incident, while he was supervising construction work, the accused allegedly forced their way into his property, halted the work, and verbally abused the workers. When Bachchu protested, they attacked him indiscriminately with hammers, iron rods, and sticks.

At one point, an assailant attempted to strike his head with a hammer; however, the blow landed below his right eye, causing him to collapse with serious injuries. As local residents responded to his cries for help, the attackers reportedly threatened them as well.

Following a call to the national emergency service (999), members of Joydebpur Police Station and RAB-1 Porabari Camp arrived at the scene and rescued him.

He was subsequently admitted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he is currently receiving treatment.
