Md. Ashraful Alam Mondal, Gazipur: Police recovered the throat-slit body of a child, who remained missing from Saturday morning, from the bank of Jamuna River at Chouhali upazila in Sirajganj district on Sunday morning. Deceased child was Md Tanjid Sarkar, 9, son of Latif Sarkar, hailed from Gacha upazila of Gazipur district. He is a student of Sataysh Muqaddamatul Hifzul Quran Madrasa at Tongi West Police Station.

The accused Shohag, 25, lived in the house of Latif Sarkar, GMP Crime South Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahbub-uz-Zaman said.

Quoting locals, Chauhali Police Station officer-in-charge Harun-Ur-Rashid said on Saturday morning, the child went out to play and didn’t return home. After searching the whole day they filed a general diary with the police station.

Locals saw the body of the child in the bank of Jamuna River at around 9 am and informed police later. After being informed, police rushed there and recovered the throat-slit body.

“Primarily police suspected that the child had been strangled to death first, and then they hacked the child’s throat to confirm the death” he said.

OC said, legal procedures are under process in this regard.
