MM Rahmatullah: The 43rd Independence Day of Saint Kitts and Nevis was celebrated in Dhaka with a reception that brought together diplomats, government officials, business leaders, media representatives and other distinguished guests, highlighting the growing bonds of friendship between the Caribbean nation and Bangladesh.
The Honorary Consulate of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Bangladesh hosted the reception at Hotel The Westin Dhaka on Friday.
Honorary Consul Tanveer Ahmed and Mrs Nichaphut Sakuntanu hosted the event, which was attended by members of the diplomatic and consular corps in Dhaka, including ambassadors, high commissioners and honorary consuls.
Senior representatives of the Bangladesh government, business community, media and various other sectors of society also joined the celebration.
The reception marked the national day of Saint Kitts and Nevis while providing an opportunity for diplomats and distinguished guests to exchange views and strengthen relations in a spirit of friendship, goodwill and mutual respect.
Speaking on the occasion, guests expressed hope that the relationship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Bangladesh would continue to advance, guided by shared aspirations for peace, prosperity, friendship and greater people-to-people contacts.
Greetings and congratulations were also extended to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis on the occasion of their 43rd Independence Day.
Saint Kitts and Nevis, a twin-island federation in the Caribbean, gained independence from the United Kingdom on September 19, 1983. The country observes its Independence Day every year to commemorate its sovereignty.
The Dhaka reception also served as an avenue for strengthening institutional and people-to-people connections between the two countries. Representatives from the diplomatic, governmental and private sectors had the opportunity to interact, exchange views and explore avenues for greater understanding and cooperation.
The event reflected the importance of diplomatic engagement in building closer ties between countries and communities, particularly through regular interaction among their governments, diplomatic missions, business sectors and people.
