Manikganj Correspondent: Begum Rokeya Day-2023 was observed in the district on Saturday with due respect.
Marking the day, district administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly chalked out the elaborate programmes.
On this occasion, a discussion was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. Deputy Commissioner Rahana Akther was present at the function as the chief guest with additional deputy commissioner (general) Sanwarul Haque in the chair.
The function was addressed, among others, by Additional SP Nurjahan Laboni, Civil Surgeon Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan Chowdhury, Deputy Director Statistic Minar Uddin and selected Joyita in education in the district Dr. Sultana Akter.
Deputy Director Women Affairs Md. Zakir Hossain delivered the welcome address at the function.
On the occasion, awards were distributed among five women for their outstanding contributions to society, women’s education and women empowerment.
The awardees are Dr. Sultana Akter, Rozina Mahmud, Mollika Yeasmin, Rahima Khan and Sajeda Chowdhury.
Begum Rokeya was born in a restricted Muslim family at Parabond village under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur district on December 09 in 1880 and died on the same date in 1932 in Kolkata.
