Staff Reporter: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today blamed BNP for instigating Readymade Garment (RMG) workers for engaging movement and creating unrest in the country’s garment sector.

“BNP has been instigating the RMG workers to continue the ongoing movement aimed at creating unrest in the sector,” he told the journalists at his ministry office here.

Replying to a question, the minister said the Prime Minister has increased the wages of the garment workers by 56 percent and the minimum wage has been increased to Tk. 12,500 from Tk. 8,000.

“We hear that many people have doubts. What will happen to the second grade, third grade and the fourth grade? Owners will surely solve these issues, they will do business. The solution is not setting on fire, vandalism and road blockade,” he added.
Kamal said the garment workers can also sit with BGMEA leaders for solving the wage issue, adding, “But they don’t do this, even they were making themselves loss as well as the country.” He said that of course, BNP is instigating the movement of the garment workers.

“We saw a BNP leader from Kushtia was encouraging and bringing workers for agitation to Konabari-such of these incidents were caught on our camera. We have information that they were all BNP activists. They were instigating the innocent workers,” the minister said.

He said those who have been arrested on charges of arson attacks were found in the video footages and cameras at various places, adding, ‘all of them are BNP activists’.
