Rayhan Ahmed, Mymensingh: In an effort to strengthen road safety awareness and encourage responsible driving practices, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Mymensingh Division and District Circle, organized a public awareness road show in Mymensingh on Tuesday.
Held in front of the Divisional Commissioner’s Office at around 12:00 noon, the campaign was conducted under the slogan, “Quality Helmets and Safe Speed Reduce the Loss of Lives and Property.” The initiative aimed to educate drivers and road users about the importance of complying with traffic laws and adopting safer driving habits.
As part of the programme, BRTA officials distributed traffic law guidelines and awareness leaflets among drivers and members of the public. The materials highlighted key road safety measures, including the use of certified helmets, maintaining safe speeds, and following traffic regulations to reduce the risk of accidents.
Speaking at the event, Mohammad Jahir Uddin Babar, Motor Vehicle Inspector at the BRTA Mymensingh District Office, said that the authority has been conducting awareness programmes on a regular basis under the leadership of Assistant Director (Engineering) Anisur Rahman.
“We are continuously working to increase awareness among drivers about the Road Transport Act and safe driving practices,” he said. “Our goal is to help motorists understand the risks that often lead to road crashes and encourage them to adopt responsible behaviour on the roads.”
Officials said road safety awareness is a shared responsibility involving drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and law enforcement agencies. They stressed that public education campaigns, alongside effective enforcement of traffic laws, can play a significant role in reducing road accidents across the country.
Bangladesh continues to face significant challenges in road safety, with speeding, reckless driving, and the failure to use protective equipment remaining among the leading causes of traffic accidents. BRTA officials expressed hope that awareness initiatives such as the Mymensingh road show would encourage greater compliance with traffic regulations and contribute to making the country’s roads safer for everyone.
