Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Ukhia Range under Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division and Ukhia Upazila administration conducted a joint operation to evacuate 1 sawmill illegally installed in Haji Para area of Ukhia Sadar Bit. 55 cubic feet of miscellaneous wood was recovered.
At 3 pm on Saturday, under the leadership of Ukhia Upazila Executive Officer Imran Hossain Sajib, Ukhia Range Officer Gazi Shafiul Alam Ukhia Thana Police, Beat Officer Headman and the team members together with the cooperation of 1 saw mill was evacuated. Meanwhile, all the equipment bodies and other goods of the illegal sawmill and 55 cubic feet of illegal miscellaneous wood were confiscated and brought to the range custody.
Ukhia Range Officer Gazi Shafiul Alam said, as part of regular operations, 1 illegal sawmill was evicted in Haji Para area of Faliapara of Ukhia Sadar Bit under the orders of Md Sarwar Alam, Divisional Forest Officer of Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division and with the cooperation of Upazila administration. Sawmill has been evacuated and the equipment seized and brought into range custody.
A case under the Forest Act will be filed against the persons involved in setting up the saw mill.
Md. Sarwar Alam, Divisional Forest Officer of Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division, said that 1 illegal sawmill has been evicted with the help of upazila administration after receiving information about setting up of illegal sawmill in Haji Para area of Faliapara of Ukhia. Deforestation by setting up illegal sawmills will be dealt with legally, no matter how influential. We are also vigilant in implementing overall tasks including protection of forest resources, rescue of government forest land, protection. He urged to cooperate with information to suppress forest crime.
