Moon Desk: The Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief over the death of a former minister, two former state ministers, an ex-opposition whip, four former lawmakers and eminent personalities including Heeraben Modi, mother of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion at the outset of the sixteenth session of the 11th parliament.
The deceased are former Energy and Natural Resources Minister ABM Golam Mostafa of Cumilla-4 constituency, former state minister for Finance and Planning Shah Muhammad Abul Hussain of Barishal-4, former State Minister for Environment and Forests Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, former lawmakers and veteran freedom fighter Dr SA Maleque of Faridpur-1, Dr Alauddin Ahammad of Kishorganj-1, SM Faruque of Bogra-9, M Shahjahan Khan of Patuakhali-3 and former opposition whip and lawmaker of Jenaidah-2 M Mashiur Rahman.
The parliament also expressed condolence over the death of employee of the parliament secretariat M Mahbubul Alam Prodhan.
Besides, condolence was expressed at the Jatiya Sangsad over the death of Geeta Rani Das, mother of Mrinal Kanti Das, MP, Mosharraf Hossain Kalu, father of Nadira Yasmin Joly ,MP, Mosammat Rizia Begum, mother of M Shahe Alam ,MP, former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, legendry Brazilian Footballer Pele, veteran freedom fighter and Roumari Upazila Awami League President Azizul Huq Sarker, Pirganj Poura Awami League President Alhaj Haifuzzaman Phul and Anita Chowdhury, wife of deceased industrialist Sampson H Chowdhury who also a founder of Square group.
Moreover, the house also expressed deep shock and prayed for eternal peace to the Almighty for those who had been lost their lives due to accidents at different places at home and abroad.
Later, the lawmakers observed one-minute silence to the memory of the deceased and offered munajat seeking the blessings to the Almighty Allah.
Treasury bench lawmaker and state minister for religious affairs Faridul Huq conducted the munajat.
