Bangladesh Nationalist Party arranged the discussion in remembrance of the martyrs who were killed during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana in Dhaka in 2009.

There will be no election in Bangladesh without a caretaker government, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

“No election will also be allowed to happen in the country unless and until a caretaker government takes over the helm of state affairs and holds the elections,” he said while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity at Segunbagicha in the capital on early Sunday afternoon.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) arranged the discussion in remembrance of the martyrs who were killed during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana in Dhaka in 2009.

Mirza Fakhrul said people have awakened. “Now, you read the language of walls. Try to understand the language of people’s eyes. You will find hatred and hatred against the government. People want change of this government right now.”

Urging all to be united, the BNP leader said, “You must come forward to save this country and its people. BNP is not safe here. JSD is not safe here. Those who follow other religions, they are also not safe here. Alems are not safe here. None is safe here. Because of it, we all have to be united against this government.”

Referring to the BDR mutiny, Mirza Fakhrul said all must be united so that incidents like February 21, 2009 could not take place anymore. “Being united, we must have to defeat this evil force through a struggle, a battle, a street movement and a people’s revolution. And, this is our only objective.”

The BNP leader alleged that they had started to killing people when we launched a movement from the month of August against the price hike of rice, lentil, salt etc. “They have killed our 17 leaders and workers on the street in broad-daylight. They have implicated numerous leaders and workers of us in false cases. They have also arrested many of them. Several thousands leaders and workers of us are now in prisons. A dreadful and intolerable situation now prevails in Bangladesh. We must have to come out of this suffocating situation,” he said.

BNP standing committee member Dr Khondker Mosharraf Hossain attended the discussion as the chief guest, while it was moderated by the party’s publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny.

It was also addressed by BNP vice-chairman Maj (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman, Muktijoddha Dal’s president Ishtiaque Aziz Ulfat, BNP media cell’s convener Jahir Uddin Swapan, Dhaka City South BNP member secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, among others.
