Joining the High Commissioner in flag raising and Reading Leadership Messages as a Special Gesture
Diplomatic Correspondent: A flag hoisting ceremony was held this morning at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day. In a symbolic gesture of national pride, the students representing various colleges and universities across Bangladesh joined the High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof in hoisting the national flag to the tune of Pakistan’s national anthem.
This year’s ceremony held a unique significance, as it was enriched by the participation of 50 Pakistani students who have been staying at the High Commission as part of special arrangements made by the Mission due to the recent situation in Bangladesh.
A highlight of the event was the reading of messages from Pakistan’s leadership by the students.
Mr. Abdul Moez, a student from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Dhaka delivered the President of Pakistan’s message and Ms. Mubashara Eiman and Ms. UmeWarqa from Sir Salimullah Medical College Dhaka read the messages from the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan respectively.
The leadership in their messages congratulated the nation on this auspicious occasion, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the founding fathers and reaffirming the commitment to building Pakistan as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. They also expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support for their just struggle.
In his concluding remarks, High Commissioner Maroof reiterated the messages from the leadership of Pakistan and urged for following the vision of the nation’s founders. He expressed satisfaction with the safety and well-being of the Pakistani students in Bangladesh, appreciating their resilience and also active participation in the Independence Day celebrations. High Commissioner Maroof especially thanked Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the safety of the students. He said that students’ presence added a unique and meaningful dimension to this year’s Independence Day celebrations, as they chose to partake in the Independence Day festivities before returning to their academic institutions.
The students, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the High Commission for its hospitality and care during these challenging times, and conveyed their pride in joining the High Commissioner to raise the flag of Pakistan and read the messages from the leadership of Pakistan.
The ceremony was also attended by members of the Pakistani community in Bangladesh, local media representatives, and the staff of the High Commission.
