Online Desk: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman received a ceremonial red-carpet welcome upon his arrival in Beijing on Tuesday evening after attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Dalian, China.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by his spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, arrived at Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station at 5:35 pm local time aboard a high-speed bullet train from Dalian. A static guard of honour and ceremonial reception were arranged to mark his arrival.
Following the welcome ceremony, Tarique Rahman was escorted to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in a ceremonial motorcade.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister departed Dalian North Railway Station at 1:58 pm local time on a high-speed train bound for the Chinese capital.
Members of the Prime Minister’s delegation include Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Mahdi Amin, and Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam.
Before travelling to Beijing, Tarique Rahman attended the plenary session of the World Economic Forum at the Dalian International Conference Center. The session was chaired by WEF President and CEO Alois Zwinggi and attended by several world leaders, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Montenegro Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, and Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah.
More than 1,700 government representatives, policymakers, business leaders, and technology entrepreneurs from over 90 countries participated in the forum.
During the WEF session titled “Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape” on June 23, the Bangladesh Prime Minister highlighted his government’s initiatives to address climate change challenges. He urged the international community to prioritize operationalising the Loss and Damage Fund, improving access to climate finance, and strengthening adaptation measures alongside mitigation efforts.
Calling for greater global action, Tarique Rahman emphasized the need for world leaders to fulfil their commitments to protect millions of people vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
On the sidelines of the conference, WEF President Alois Zwinggi met with the Tarique Rahman and discussed issues related to investment, employment generation, and Bangladesh’s economic development.
Tarique Rahman arrived in Dalian on Monday from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of the second leg of his first official overseas tour since assuming office.
Officials described his maiden visit to China as particularly significant as Bangladesh and China enter a new chapter in their bilateral relations under the theme “Golden 50 Years.” They noted that the visit would help consolidate past achievements while shaping the future direction of cooperation between the two countries.
