The Prime Minister handed over the cheques to representatives of the religious institutions at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Friday afternoon.
The financial assistance covers a total of 38 religious institutions in the constituency. Representatives of the mosques and temples received the cheques on behalf of their respective institutions.
Each of the 28 mosques received Tk 247,000, bringing the total assistance for the mosques to Tk 6,916,000. In addition, each of the 10 temples received Tk 300,000, amounting to Tk 3 million in total.
Taken together, the assistance distributed to the 38 religious institutions amounts to Tk 9,916,000.
The support comes ahead of Durga Puja, one of the largest religious festivals observed by Bangladesh’s Hindu community. The assistance is intended to help religious institutions meet their needs and make necessary preparations for the festival.
For the temples, the financial support is expected to contribute to arrangements associated with Durga Puja, while the assistance provided to the mosques will support their regular activities and institutional needs.
