MM Rahmatullah: Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia to discuss ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries and exchange views on regional and international developments.
Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah conveyed the invitation to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat on Monday, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin.
The invitation reflects Saudi Arabia’s interest in deepening its relationship with Bangladesh, particularly in areas of mutual interest. In his letter, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed the Kingdom’s desire to further expand bilateral cooperation in a way that serves the interests and aspirations of both countries and their peoples.
The Saudi leader invited the Bangladesh prime minister to visit the Kingdom for discussions on strengthening bilateral ties as well as consultations on important regional and international issues.
The letter did not mention a specific date for the visit. Instead, it said the date and programme would be finalised at a mutually convenient time through diplomatic channels between the two countries.
The proposed visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to review the existing Bangladesh-Saudi partnership and explore new areas of cooperation. It could also allow the leaders to exchange views on developments in the wider Middle East, South Asia and other matters of common interest.
Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh have maintained close relations for decades, with cooperation extending across several areas of mutual interest. The Kingdom is also an important destination for Bangladeshi workers, making the relationship particularly significant for Bangladesh and millions of Bangladeshi families.
Beyond economic and labour-related ties, the two countries have maintained diplomatic engagement on regional and international issues. A high-level visit by the Bangladesh prime minister could therefore give fresh momentum to bilateral relations and open the door to further cooperation.
At the end of his message, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed his wishes for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s continued health and happiness. He also wished continued progress and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.
The next step will be diplomatic consultations between Dhaka and Riyadh to determine a mutually suitable date and schedule for the Bangladesh prime minister’s visit.
