Tangail Correspondent: BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders-activists were attacked in Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila on their way to the BNP rally in Dhaka. At least 12 people were injured in this incident.

The attack took place at Nagda Shimla market of Gopalpur upazila at around two o’clock in the morning on Tuesday. The injured persons have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The leaders-activists injured in the attack are Dhanbari Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Jahedul Islam alias, Mohabbat, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Sharif Hossain, Member Secretary Saiful Islam, Joint Convener Vijay Sarkar, Baniajan Union Chhatra Dal President Antar Hasan, Jadunathpur Union Chhatra Dal President Saiful Islam, General Secretary Mamun Khan, Bolibhadra Union Chhatra Dal General Secretary Rakibul Hasan, Upazila BNP President MA Azizur Rahman’s son Mirza Habib Hasan, Mushuddi Union Chhatra Dal President Md. Sohan Hasan, general secretary of the independent, Birtara Union Chhatra Dal and the driver of the microbus.

Leaders of Upazila BNP said that leaders of Dhanbari Upazila BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal left for a micro-residence last night to attend the party rally in Dhaka.

When the microbus reached Nagda Shimla market of Gopalpur upazila at around 2 am, miscreants attacked them with indigenous weapons. 12 people were injured due to random blows and sticks. They were rescued from there and taken to Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex first. Later they were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Dhanbari Upazila BNP President MA Azizur Rahman said that when the BNP, Juba Dal, and Chhatra Dal leaders and workers reached Nagda Shimla market in Gopalpur, the government party leaders and workers stopped the microbus and ambushed them. 12 leaders and workers of Microbus were injured. The condition of three of them is critical.

In this incident, Musharraf Hossain of Gopalpur police station said, “I have heard the matter.” However, it could not be confirmed who or what caused this incident. Apart from this, if any complaint is received, necessary measures will be taken subject to investigation.
