BSS, CHATTOGRAM: BNP has a plan to unleash terror and anarchic activities by hurling petrol-bombs and bombs on polling day from motorbikes, but this plot has already been exposed to intelligence and law enforcement agencies, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
“That’s why it will never be possible for them to execute the plot. A force chief informed me of this plan today as I am the information minister of the government,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
Hasan, AL candidate for Chattogram-7 (Rangunia and Boalkhali partial) constituency for the next parliamentary polls, was addressing as the chief guest a view-exchange meeting with election conducting committee of his constituency at AL’s Rangunia Upazila office.
About BNP’s call for another two-day hartal, the minister said the party has made the hartal a useless political weapon.
Mentioning BNP’s subversive activities across the country ahead of the next election, he said they set two school buildings in North Bengal on fire on Thursday. Those who throw petrol bombs on the common people, call hartal for no reason, try to terrorize the people, they are the enemy of the people, he said, adding that actually, BNP has now become the opponent of the people.
Being woken up, in the way the people foiled BNP’s previous evil designs, this time they will also do so, he said.
Though there is no room for these miscreants in Chattogram-7 constituency, they people should stay alert, he said.
Hasan said BNP had called a hartal earlier, but the people didn’t respond at all.
No one knows who called this hartal of BNP and when it is called, he said.
They are making themselves ridiculous by calling such kinds of hartal programme as hartal has become a useless political weapon, he mentioned.
Noting that BNP’s initial plan was to thwart the election, the minister said after the announcement of the election schedule, they took a plan as festival and excitement centering the polls cannot take place in the country.
Later, they resorted to arson to foil the election festivity, he said, adding that when they sensed that the election is going to happen, they threw petrol bombs and killed many people while many innocent people were burnt.
Hasan said recently a mother along with her baby was burnt to ashes in a petrol bomb attack carried out by BNP and the heartbreaking death “shocked the Throne of Allah”.
In the way BNP has hurled petrol bombs and carried out fire terrorism on innocent people, not only the people but also the Almighty Allah has become displeased and disappointed at them.
Even by doing this, BNP could not stop the festivity and excitement centering the election and then they retreated now.
After retreating, he said, BNP is now not using the words like foiling the polls or resisting it rather they are calling to avoid elections. That meant that they have retreated from the previous position, he mentioned.
Mentioning that massive festivity and enthusiasm has been prevailing in the country centering the polls, Hasan said election is a festival in Bangladesh and this festivity has spread all over the country today and this festive mood is much more in Rangunia than many areas.
Hasan hoped a fair and free election is going to be held in the country on next Sunday with the spontaneous participation of the people.
“We firmly believe that Awami League will again achieve a landslide victory in the polls,” he said.
If AL is voted to power again, Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina will form the government and assume office as the prime minister for the fourth consecutive term in the country’s history and for the fifth time in total.
“We are working towards that goal,” he said.
AL’s Chattogram-7 constituency’s election conducting committee chairman and Rangunia Upazila Chairman Swajan Kumar Talukdar chaired the view-exchange, moderated by Upazila Awami League general secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder.
AL’s Chattogram North District leaders Abul Kashem Chishti, mayor Shahjahan Sikder, Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, Idris Ajgar, Nazrul Islam Talukder, Iftekhar Hossain Babul, Akhtar Hossain Khan and Abdul Monaf Sikder were present.
