It said that 13 thousand 892 cases of crime against women were registered in Delhi last year, which is 40 percent more than the previous year. In 2020, 9,782 cases of crimes against women were registered in Delhi.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Delhi accounts for nearly 32 percent of the total number of crimes against women among the country’s 19 metropolitan cities.

Mumbai, the country’s commercial capital, has the second highest number of crimes against women after Delhi. In 2021, there were 5 thousand 543 cases of crimes against women in this metropolis. Next is Bangalore; There have been 3 thousand 127 cases.

About 12.76 percent of the total crimes committed in the country’s 19 cities were recorded in Mumbai and 7.2 percent in Bengaluru.

Besides, Delhi has the highest number of cases of kidnapping of women (3,948), husband torture (4,674) and rape of minors (833) compared to other metropolitan cities of the country with more than 2 million people.

Statistics show that an average of two minors was raped every day in Delhi last year. At the same time, 43,414 crimes against women occurred in 19 metropolitan cities of the country, but 13,982 cases were recorded in the capital Delhi.

In 2021, 136 women were killed due to dowry in Delhi, which is about 36.26 percent of the total deaths in 19 metropolitan cities of the country. And in 19 cities, 8 thousand 664 cases of abduction occurred, but in case of Delhi, the number is 3 thousand 948.

NCRB said 2,222 women were also assaulted in Delhi last year on charges of immodest clothing. In these incidents, 1 thousand 357 cases have been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.
