Sports Desk: England defeated Netherlands by 160 runs to register their second win in the ICC World Cup 2023. It was their first victory after 28 days.
England captain won the toss and decided to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.
Ben Stokes scored a century for England to take the score to 339/9 in 50 overs. Chasing 340 runs to upset the defending champions, the Orange Army were bowled out for 179 runs.
For the Jos Buttler-led team, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took three wickets each, respectively.
Despite losing Jonny Bairstow to the turn of Aryan Dutt in an early blow, England finished their first Powerplay period at a run rate of seven.
Dawid Malan (87) unleashed a number of big shots. He was well set and pacing towards his seventh ODI hundred when was run out due to van Beek’s accurate throw in the inner ring.
Later, Ben Stokes took the charge and smashed 108 runs to boost the total. He got full support from tail order player Chris Woakes who played an inning of 51 runs.
