Golam Mostafa, Tarash: Twenty-one members of five families in Tarash, Sirajganj, have been unable to return to their homes for six months after allegedly refusing to pay Tk 5 lakh in extortion demanded by village leaders over a farmland purchase. The incident took place in Ballabha village under Madhainagar Union of the upazila.
The victims held a press conference at the Public Library hall room on Saturday noon. In a written statement, Rubel Rana said they had filed complaints with Tarash Police Station and other concerned offices, but have yet to receive any remedy.
Regarding the matter, Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Habibur Rahman said police have been sent to the spot multiple times. “Legal action is being taken as per the law,” he added.
