KHULNA Bureau: The Khulna district administration has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the Victory Day over the Pakistani occupation forces on December 16 with a pledge to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War.
The programmes have been taken at a preparedness meeting on Wednesday at the office of deputy commissioner with DC Khondokar Yasir Arefin in the chair.
Local elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended the meeting.
The programmes of the day will begin with 31-gun salute to be held at Metropolitan Police Lines at Boyra in the city. Other programmes were including hoisting of the national flag atop of all public and private buildings, placing wreaths at Gallamari Martyred Memorial in the city. Khulna Shishu Academy will organize an art and painting competition for the children on the occasion.
Sports competition for women will be held at Pioneer Secondary Girls School while display of rare pictures on Liberation War and books will be held at Umesh Chandra Public Library.
A discussion will be held at Khulna Shilpokola Academy followed by a cultural programme. A reception programme to the freedom fighters and children of martyred freedom fighters will be held at the same venue.
Special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.
Improved diet will be served at all hospitals, orphanages and jails to mark the day.
State-run Khulna Betar will broadcast special programmes while the local newspapers will bring out special supplements highlighting the importance of the day.
A discussion on the life of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin will held in Rupsha Ghat area on December 17. Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Pulak Kumar Mondal, Freedom Fighter Professor Alamgir Kabir, deputy police commissioner Mohammad Tazul Islam, additional superintendent of Police Taposh Kumar Paul, general secretary of city unit AL MDA Babul Rana, among others, will address the meeting.
Later, a preparedness meeting was also held to observe the martyr intellectual day.
